Category 1 Launch - FAA Waiver

Category 2 Launch - FAA approval required on a per launch basis

Max altitude - 80,000 -125,000ft (depending on weight)


Maximum Payload Weight:

(Category 1) 2.7kg Max Single Payload or 2 x 2kg payloads per flight

(Category 2) Anything in excess of Category 1 is considered a Category 2 launch and will require special FAA permission that we will aim to get for your payload if deemed safe by the FAA.

Max Payload Volume 100cm x 150cm x 100cm (USA)


Payload Restrictions:

(Category 1)

No large high-density metal objects e.g. ball bearings above 10mm, nails, etc., nothing that may break free from the main payload system. Free falling objects must fall with a parachute unless special permission is arranged. 

Weigh less than four pounds and have a weight/size ratio of more than three ounces per square inch on any surface of the package, determined by dividing the total weight in ounces of the payload package by the area in square inches of its smallest surface.

If your payload is considered “higher risk” or poses a below-minimal aviation risk, please consult with us and we will work directly with the FAA to see if this is possible.

Visual Capability: 

Camera Abilities 2 x 4K Camera (Go Pro 4) 1 X 1080p Camera (Go Pro 3+) all of these have been upgraded to allow for extended recording time which is 2 hours + for 4K and 3 hours + for 1080p additional cameras also available.


On-board Power:

On-board power available: 2 x 1Amp USB Ports connected to 12,000MAH battery 50WH 12v DC Max 50W peak current draw


Thermal Regulation: 

Internal heat regulation, the internal payload bay can be kept anywhere between 0-40°C if desired +/- 2°C 


Flight Duration:

Expected flight time for standard flights: 2-4 hours 

Long duration flights ranging between 12-24 hours can also be arranged.

Expected time spent in “Near Space” (60,000ft+) during standard flight 1-2 hours 


Ground-Based Testing:

Pre-flight testing available, thermal testing, vacuum testing, heat stress testing: 25- 75°C


Data Collection:

Environmental data collection, CO2, O2, alpha, beta and gamma radiation, pressure, temperature, UV and other environmental data collection capabilities are available. 

Backup radio beacon tracking + additional GPS units can also be integrated 

Range of other data downlink systems also available.



Safety systems - Fully custom GPS System developed over 10+ Flights with Stanford. Includes full GPS Cut down the system to ensure it does not land anywhere with a high population density / in the sea. We also have a fully independent time based cut down system. 



Media Support:

Professional media support and launch footage is also available.


FAA Regulations:


We will ensure that both your payload and our own tracking system is fully compliant with the Part 101 FAA unmanned balloon regulations.
